JOURNAL HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT

L'Atalante. Revista de estudios cinematográficost was born in 2003 within the university community out of a desire to disseminate the knowledge of and perspectives on cinema produced by the members of the Associació Cinefòrum L’Atalante. Given the diversity of activities developed by the Cinefòrum L'Atalante, in 2015, the members directly linked to the edition of the journal founded another association entirely dedicated to it, El camarote de Père Jules, which has since co-published the journal.

Since then the publication has undergone several changes and improvements, which have kept the spirit that has characterised the journal — to reflect on and promote cinema — while achieving a level of international prominence in keeping with the criteria and rigour expected of a humanities journal.

The publication has evolved gradually, although it was especially evident in the 8th issue (published in July 2009), where its contents were restructured in the different permanent sections that now form the layout of the publication. From issue 21st (January 2016), the publication ceased to be published on paper and the layout was redesigned and optimised for on-screen reading.

PUBLISHING ENTITY AND GOVERNANCE

L'Atalante is a journal edited by the cultural association El Camarote de Père Jules (main editor) and Associació Cinefòrum L'Atalante.

El Camarote de Père Jules is a non-profit organisation whose main purpose is to promote spaces for reflection and debate on film and other audiovisual media (CIF G98857402 and registered in the National Register of Associations with number 609174) and whose main activity is the publication of L'Atalante. Its Board of Directors is voted every two years among the members of the Editorial Board and is currently composed of Marta Martín Núñez (President), Jordi Montañana Velilla (Vice-President), Alberto Porta Pérez (Secretary) and Violeta Martín Núñez (Treasurer) for the period 2024-2026.

The direction of L'Atalante is a collegiate board representing the Editorial Bboard as a whole, operating under the pseudonym Père Jules, as indicated on the masthead of the issues published. Thus, editorial decisions are taken by consensus through the Editorial Board.
