Abstract

The attitude of the film industry toward the Internet is changing. The web is rapidly becoming a powerful distribution channel for audiovisual content. The Filmin project was born as a response to the changes in technology and user habits that the Internet has experienced in the past few years: the available devices have been multiplied and viewers want to be able to watch audiovisual content on all of them. Filmin has convinced distributors and owners of content rights to offer their titles through a variety of platforms by offering a hight quality streaming service and an ever-growing catalogue of titles. The variety of legal online content providers will grow in the following years and, together with filmin, will serve to consolidate the online business model for the film industry. Especially the suscription plan, which allows viewers to discover new titles without resorting to illegal offers. The biggest challenge lies in convincing the industry that the Internet is an ally, as well as developing a legislation appropriate to the current viewer’s habits.
