Abstract

David the Gnome is a children’s animated series created by Claudio Biern Boyd that premiered on Spanish national television in 1985. In the following years, it was broadcasted in more than half the countries worldwide. This article analyzes the show’s narrative structure, the construction of its characters, their evolution and, above all, the educational function of the series itself. In other words, we will look at the values and ideals that were common in the children’s series created by the Spanish production company BRB Internacional at the beginning of the 80’s. The article will also emphasize the series’ classic and traditional viewpoint, seeing as it encourages the protection of the little guy and the environment, which is used to shed light on teaching the values of equality.
