Abstract

This article is intended as a reflection on the various innovations, more or less experimental and subversive of the norm, carried out by the Hollywood studios in its classical era. Various expressive solutions are discussed, paying special attention to photography, mise-en-scène, editing, sound, narration and time. Other aspects of these innovations, mainly foreign influences, are also addressed. Ultimately, it is noted that classical Hollywood was, despite what has so far been asserted, especially given to experimentations and innovations, often very daring, but always perfectly integrated into the narrative discourse of the film.
