Lucía Blanco Picó holds a degree in Audiovisual Communication and is a PhD student at the Departamento de Teoría de los Lenguajes of the Universitat de València. She is currently studying the Master in Gender and Equality Policies at the same university. She is a member of the Asociación Cinefórum L’Atalante, which manages the Aula de Cinema de la Universitat de València.
Óscar Brox Santiago (Valencia, 1983) is a critic and film writer. He is editor of the journal Détour and editor in chief of the publication Miradas de cine. He has lectured classes and seminars in the school La casa del cine, in Barcelona, written critical commentaries in the DVD editions for Avalon and Filmoteca Fnac¸ contributed to the Festival de cine de Gijón’s newspaper or taken part in collective books such as El cine de animación japonés (IVAC/Donostia Kultura). He was a member of the team responsible for the management of the Aula de Cinema de la Universitat de València from 2007 to 2010.

Abstract
Contemporary thriller, as represented in Michael Mann’s films, basically revolves around the dichotomy presented by a willingly self sufficient society which, however, leaves its landmark intact, since it would feel defenseless without them. Maybe that is why we have to follow the trail of classic cinema and its heroes in order to understand this contradiction.
