Resumen

El díptico documental conformado por The Act of Killing y La mirada del silencio supuso, en la década pasada, un punto de inflexión en la recuperación de la memoria del genocidio indonesio acontecido entre 1965 y 1966. Al mismo tiempo, ambas películas, dirigidas por Joshua Oppenheimer, marcaron un antes y un después en la evolución del documental performativo y la representación de la violencia en los discursos memorísticos de la no ficción. En el presente artículo se exploran las estrategias desarrolladas por estos títulos en la incorporación de los testimonios de perpetradores y víctimas, poniendo especial atención a la autorrepresentación, la performatividad y el papel de la televisión y el cine en la narrativa del genocidio. Se aborda para ello un análisis textual de secuencias clave que parte de la semiótica visual, con el fin de determinar los efectos que dichas estrategias tienen en el discurso documental y ponderar la importancia de las obras en un contexto de creciente presión para la reparación de la memoria indonesia.
